Lessons
Summerset’s philosophy and focus is to develop a positive learning environment and a sense of team while focusing on the needs of the horse and rider. We want to create an atmosphere of mutual encouragement, respect and communication. The exchanging of ideas and team building, while incorporating fun, creative lessons and activities, are encouraged. Lessons will concentrate on both horse and rider by means of individualized lessons geared for the horse and rider’s appropriate skill level. We want to give the rider a better understanding of horse behavior and their own tendencies and how that affects the bio-mechanics of both themselves and the horse. This understanding will make them critical thinkers and better riders and as a result benefit their horses.

Lesson FAQs

Is there a weight limit?
    - Due to the size of the horses in the program, we cannot accept anyone over 200lbs.

Can I take a tour and ask questions about the program?
    - YES! In fact we encourage you to stop out to see the facility and ask any questions you have about the program before you commit to any lessons. Contact Carly to set up a tour.

Do you supply the helmet and equipment?
    - Yes! All you need is appropriately fitting clothes and closed toed boots with a small heel.

What should I expect to learn at my first lesson?
    - Basic safety procedures, where equipment is located, how to groom and tack up the horse, and how to lead.  The first two lessons for beginners is on the ground.

Do I need to have experience to take lessons here?
    - Nope! We teach from the ground up!  It's ok if you've had lessons before too!

Are horses safe?
    - We have a lovely string of horses in our program that are suitable for beginners.  But it's important to know that horses do have a mind of their own and are never considered 100% safe.
